Gerhard Sonnert

Gerhard Sonnert is a Research Associate at Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian. His research has been mainly on gender in science, science policy, and science education, and he has published numerous articles and ten books, among them Einstein and Culture (2005). He received an M.A. and a doctorate in sociology from the University of Erlangen, Germany, and an M.P.A. from Harvard University. He is also a bass player and was a member of the Boston-area band Move. In the 1970s and 1980s, he played with Volkmar Studtrucker in the bands Infrastruktur and Infrastruktur II.

About Gerhard's Cosmic Creations

When I came across cosmic x-rays, which had been captured by the Chandra X-Ray Observatory, transformed into sounds and presented in musical notation, I began to wonder if we could turn these sounds into music. This gave rise to the Star Songs project.
