Claire Lamman

I am a graduate student helping to map out the nearby universe! We're observing millions of galaxies and using the data to understand the structure of the universe, how it changes, and what's the deal with dark energy. I spend most of my time figuring out ways to measure patterns in the shapes of galaxies, and sometimes I get to help observe on the telescope (remotely)!

About Claire's Cosmic Creations

A lot of my astronomy baking was inspired by making birthday cakes for other grad students (pre-pandemic) and finding fun ways to represent their research in cake-form. It's a fun way to celebrate all their exciting work, especially because grad students always seem to be hungry. It's also a good way to draw attention to the work my collaboration does, whether it be putting a map of the universe on a cheesecake or making a cake-version of our telescope. Anyone can bake, try decorating a cookie with your favorite plot! I promise data tastes very good.
