Welcome to your stay at Chestnut Residence in Toronto! Below, you will find all the information you need regarding your residence experience, including residence rules and expectations, meals, transportation, your room, curfews, laundry facilities, building amenities, and helpful advice for adapting to life in Canada. This section is designed to support you throughout your stay and help you feel comfortable, prepared, and at home during your time in Toronto.
The residence offers private and spacious rooms featuring one or two double beds and an en suite bathroom.
All rooms have a bed, desk and chair and a wardrobe.
There is a small shower with a sink and a toilet
Bed linen is provided and towels are provided.
If you need a hairdryer you will need to bring one for yourself
Breakfast: 7:30am - 10:30am
Lunch: 12:30pm - 1:30pm
Dinner: 5:00pm - 8:00pm
Dietary options:
Halal, vegetarian, vegan, dairy, gluten free available upon request
For safety reasons, students are not permitted to go out alone and must always be accompanied by at least one other student when leaving the residence.
Students require permission from the Residence Don or their Group Leader if they would like to leave the residence.
Students are not permitted to leave the residence after evening activities.
All students must be in their rooms by 10:00 PM each night.
These rules are in place to help ensure student safety and wellbeing throughout the program.
10 - 14 years old: may not leave the residence without supervision
15 - 18 years old: may not leave without permission
Open 24/7 with pay-per-use washers and dryers.
Machines are operated with a loadable laundry card.
1 load in the washer is $2.25, 1 load in the dryer is $1.75
If you wish to invite a guest (that doesn't live at Chestnut) to visit you at the residence please inform the Residence Don first.
Guests are not allowed to stay overnight.
You will have classes from 9:15AM to 12:12PM.
If you want to change to a different level please inform your teacher, or Donna Daly directly.

Afternoon Activities
Afternoon activities will take place at 1:30PM after lunch time.
You will be meeting your activity leader in the lobby of Chestnut residence and then head out to the activity.
Students are required to participate in their afternoon activties.
Evening Activities
The evening activities take place after dinner starting at 7PM.
The end time differs depending on the activity of the day.
Students are required to participate in their evening activities.
In the morning to go to class, students will take the Line 2 northbound subway from St. Patrick Station to St. George Station.
For lunch students take back the subway to the residence.
There are two subway stations in walking distance to the residence, which are St. Patrick station and TMU (formerly Dundas).
Chestnut Residence provides a number of water refilling stations and snack vending machines.

Look Out (27th floor)
Dining Commons (lobby level)
Laundry Room (concourse level)
Just simply bring your reusable bottle and fill up.

Your stay at Chestnut includes access to a number of spaces and amenities, including:

Arrivals can check in at the reception of Chestnut Residence from 4:00pm and need to check out on their last day at 11:00am.
Smoking/Vaping
Smoking and smoking-related activities (including, but not limited to, cigarettes, vaping, e-cigarettes, hookahs, and other smoking devices) are not permitted anywhere inside the residence, including resident rooms, suites, and common areas. Additionally, as a smoke-free campus, smoking is not permitted on any University of Toronto property. You must smoke outdoors only.
Alcohol
You must be 19 years old to consume alcohol in Toronto, Ontario. Therefore, all TAP students are not permitted to consume alcohol at anytime during their time in Toronto, this includes while in your residence.
Residents shall not destroy, steal, deface, or damage University property or the property of other residents.
Removal of furnishings or other items belonging to the University from residence rooms or common areas within the residence is prohibited.
Throwing or dropping objects from, at, or within the residences in such a manner that it may endanger the safety of others.
Unauthorized entry into another resident’s room or any restricted area including offices, rooftops, mechanical rooms, or other controlled-access spaces.
Abusive, profane, intimidating, threatening, or violent behaviour, real or perceived, toward any member of the residence community
Harassment and/or discrimination on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, marital status, receipt of public assistance, or record of offence;
Residents will not tamper with fire equipment, including but not limited to fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, sprinkler heads, and fire doors.
Open flames such as candles, incense, and sparklers are not permitted in residence. Residents who require the use of an open flame for religious or spiritual purposes should contact residence staff.
Residents must use only CSA-certified (or equivalent) electrical devices, avoid overloading outlets or power bars, and take reasonable precautions to reduce fire risk, including proper use and storage of appliances.
Cooking is not permitted in individual residence rooms, hallways, or lounges not specifically designed for such purpose. This includes the use of appliances such as electrical frying pans, toasters, ovens, microwaves, rice cookers, and any device with a heating element.
When the fire alarm sounds, all residents are expected to immediately exit the building using the nearest emergency exit and gather at the identified muster point.
Corridors, including those within suites, must remain free from obstruction.
