Dual Credit

What is dual credit?

Dual credit is post-secondary programming that Alberta Education has approved for students to access in grades 10, 11, or 12. High school students can earn both high school credits and credits that count towards a post-secondary certificate, diploma, or degree, including Trades courses and pre-employment certificates.

Dual credit programming allows high school students to build on or discover their career passions by participating in apprenticeship training or post-secondary, college or university courses earning both high school and post-secondary credits for the same course while gaining valuable awareness of these career pathways to inform future decision making.

Chinook's Edge has a strong partnership with Olds College that provides dual credit programming in many Trades areas, as well as multiple other program areas at Olds College. Chinook's Edge also works with other post-secondary institutions from across the province to bring additional programming to our students.

Who is eligible?

Grade 10, 11 and 12 students are eligible for dual credit. Dual credit opportunities do have a selection process that involves reviews of student academic success and ability to be successful in the opportunity. This is important as students need to be prepared for the expectations and rigors of a post-secondary course or program.
