Metal Tooling
Emma Brown “An Eye of Someone That Holds Conflicted Pain.”
8 x 10, Metal slab, Black paint wash, Black Sharpie (thin and thick), Six colors of colored pencil (black, tan, red, blue, gray, and silver), 2018
I got this idea from the famous Japanese anime “Naruto” the man in this pictures name is “Itachi Uchiha” and he has the ability to channel energy into his eyes, making his eyes to change into different design, this is a consequence of the second stage of his power if he uses it too much.
Well, first, what I did was slowly start drawing the eye on a white blank piece of paper, while drawing I fixed the size of the eye while adding the other pieces to the drawing. The way I drew it was hand-drawn using small light strokes. After drawing the outline of the drawing, I put the metal slab under the drawing and started tracing the drawing on top of the metal slab, I also traced some parts of the drawing the other side of the metal slab.
I want my audience to think is that if someone that caused you great pain seems evil to you, sometimes you have to look past those eyes that hold zero emotion and see that those eyes an even greater deal of pain.
I would change a few spots of the outlining of the drawing on the metal so the black wash could get into the grooves of the metal.
I love the backstory of the man in this picture because he had to sacrifice everything he loved to save his village and his little brother that he loves too much to kill because he was ordered by his village to kill his whole clan, but he couldn’t bring himself to kill his little brother, because he was too precious to him than his own villages safety.
Emma Brown “The PENCILS cup”
4X4X6.5, Earthenware Clay 2018
I got this idea from Mrs.Butler’s clay ruler vace. The way I developed this idea is, first I rolled out a small slab of clay to make the base of the pot than I cut a medium sized circle that would be the base. Second, I rolled out a larger, but less wide slab that would’ve been the sides. Third, I scored and slipped them together. Forth, I rolled out another slab to put on top of the sides of the pot and I scored and slipped that together. Fifth, I rolled out two coils, one to go around the base to make it more rounded, and the other around the area where the two slabs meet on the sides the cover-up the cracks. Once I was done with putting everything together, I took some paint brushes and smoothed out the inside so that it looks completely smooth. After that was done, I took some more paint brushes and took some blue finishing and covered the pot in three coats of the finishing on the pot. Then once that was dry I took some purple finishing and painted the word “PENCILS” on it for my pencils at home. Finally, after that was done, Mrs.Butler put the pot in the kiln and waited for the glaze to get all shiny and it was done.
The methods I used was using slabs, coils, and using score and slip.
My audience should know that you can create something out of clay that isn’t just for looking at, it can have its own use.
If I would change anything, I would add some more designs with the glaze.
I love the fact that I can use this without wasting space in my room because I have a lot of pencils and not that much space.
