“Mare Tranquillitatis”
8’x10’
Adobe Photoshop Elements
The name of a mare on the moon, “Mare tranquillitatis”, meaning “Sea of Tranquility” was the main piece of inspiration for this piece. I created this piece by first sketching a rough version of what I had planned. I then scanned the sketch and added it to a photoshop file. From there, I redrew the sketch on the photoshop file, coloured it in, and added shadows and filters. During the creation of the earth, I had trouble recreating the texture that a storm cloud would have, so I tried quite a few methods for recreating such a texture, until I was satisfied with it. The whole of photoshop was quite new to me, and I learned how to work with filters, layers, and transparency. My favorite aspect of my piece would probably be the Earth, as I worked a fair bit on it. The whole of the light refractions off the water is suboptimal, and I would work more on those if given the chance.

“A bowl”
5.5”x4.7”x4.2
Clay, glaze.
The main source of inspiration for this was a very old bowl reportedly used for holding fish. The process I went through for creating this piece was to draw my plan for the piece, identify the techniques I would use to create such a piece, and carry out such techniques. After the piece was fired, I made a plan for the use of glaze and carried it out. I demonstrated problem-solving in this piece when I was strapped for time and I cut away aspects of the piece that were not necessary and would take a lot of time to complete. In this piece, I tried something new in the form of legs, something that I’ve never added to a 3-dimensional piece before.
The part of this piece that I like the most is its color palette, and if I could change one thing about it, I would make the clay work finer with fewer imperfections.
