Literacy Leadership Coaching Modules
Coaching Models for Shifts in Literacy Teaching
Building the capacity of teachers to lead evidence-informed growth for students lies at the heart of the work of the leader.
Horizons of Hope Foundation Statement: Leadership
This series of videos looks closely at the role of literacy leader as coach.
These modules aim to build teacher capacity to meet the diverse range of student literacy needs, literacy leaders model, coach, challenge and provide timely feedback.
The resources provided in these modules have been developed in partnership with MACS and Cue Learning Education Consultants, Sharon and Phil Cullen.
Before viewing the videos:
Consider the role of a coach generally, for example, a basketball coach. When you think of a ‘coach’, what comes to mind? Do you think of particular people? Particular situations?
What role does a coach play?
What is the goal of coaching?
What knowledge and skills are needed?
What else needs to be considered?
Now consider the same questions with a focus on coaching in terms of literacy leadership. Identify the similarities and differences.
Reflect: What do you bring to the role of coach? Where do your strengths lie? In what aspects are you less confident?
You may like to set a learning goal for yourself - one that addresses an area you’d like to grow and that relates to both your personal aspirations and the aspirations of your school community.
As you view and reflect on the videos, consider how the content might further inform and influence your work as a coach and help you to achieve your goals.
