Purpose

Debate Elective gives students a fun way of developing their communication and critical thinking skills. In debate students will learn how to use their critical thinking skills wisely.In the process of debate you will start seeing changes in the student's confidence and organisation skills.

What are we proud of?

We are proud of our students being able to:

  • Stay on task in a time limit

  • Doing deep research

  • Being able to speak in-front of everyone

  • Coming up with three main key points and staying on point

The debate finals moot was: "Blacklisting Caribbean Financial Centres is a modern form of colonialism" and the Cedar team were proponents up against Elmore Stoutt High School who had beaten Cedar in last year's final. Particular congratulations to Amelia Adamson who was named Best Speaker overall for the whole Inter-School debate series which had started back in mid-December.
