Many of the most emblematic buildings in the city of Lecce stand on limestone, very characteristic of Salento area (Puglia). During the visit to one of the companies that was in charge of one of the farms, we were able to learn about the calcareous components that make up limestone, its compactness and special luminosity, while its unique structure is enriched by the presence of fossil fragments. Various types of stone are mined, differing in color, homogeneity, age and composition; in particular we should mention the pale yellow, white and gray types.
This millenary and calcareous stone is a natural resource, skilfully worked by master craftsmen who continue today promoting its creative use in many fields, including the construction industry, street furniture, interior design.
