Great Barrier Reef
9x12
Paper, fabric, oil pastels, glue
My source of inspiration for my arpillera is the problem of the bleaching in the Great Barrier Reef. My process in making my project was, first I got a piece of construction paper and I started to cut up other pieces of paper and fabric to use at the coral. I then glued on the pieces and started to draw out fish with oil pastels. It was difficult and challenging to think of ideas to be original on my arpillera and I was having trouble trying to think of ideas to base mine off of but then I looked some things up and made a plan. It was a risk to cut out the coral instead of drawing it because it might have not turned out right. I like how I was able to show the difference in how the great barrier reef had turned after the bleaching started then how it was before it started. If I could start over I would change which sides my before and after were on.

Dotted Scream
11x8
Markers, paper, penic, sharpie
I was inspired by a painting called “The Scream”. First I got a piece of paper and started to draw where the fence and floor would go. I then started at the top with my markers and started dotting my way down. When I was done dotting I traced with a sharpie on the lines. It took a long time to dot everywhere on my paper but I finally got it done. I think it was kinda risky using a small fine point marker like I did because I knew it would take a long time to complete. I really like how the finished product turned out and I think it looks really cool. If I were to start over I think I would use a bigger marker so that it would not take as long to complete.

Watts Memorial
11x8
Sharpie, pencil, paper
I was inspired by the case of Shannan Watts and her two daughters. My process for creating this artwork was that first I had to think of someone to make a memorial for and I had thought of Shannan and her two daughters Celeste and Bella. I then had to think of where it would be at and I decided for a park near their home town Frederick, CO. I then started to sketch with pencil until I figured out what I wanted it to look like. Once I was finished with my pencil I went over it with a sharpie so that it would pop out and look better. It was pretty hard for me to pick a person to make a memorial for because I know a lot of people already have a memorial. I think it was risky not using color on my memorial but I think it still turned out nice. I really like how I made that small canopy for it and I think it just looks really nice and peaceful. If I were to change anything I think I would have to change the landscape around it maybe with more plants like trees and bushes and flowers rather than open land.
