Kathryn Grau "Birthday Cake"
11x14', Color Pencil and chalk, 2018
I got this idea because I thought it would be a fun still life and a good first project to do. A cake represents something fun my mom and I do. The process was easy so I started with the table then worked up and finished with shading and making it look real. I would change the table because I don’t like how it came out, I would change the colors and make it look more realistic. I love how my bow and cake decorations came out.
Kathryn Grau “Sunset Island”
12x18’, Graphite on paper, 2018
I got this idea because I enjoy the beach and wanted to challenge myself to do better at shading. This drawing means the challenge I took to better my skill and improve. The process was hard and I started with the water then moved to the land and sky then to the boat and other details. If I could start over I would change the shading of the sky to a lighter color and I would change the leafs on my palm tree to look more real. I love the shading I did and my boat because shading isn’t my strongest talent so I liked how it turned out and I liked my boat because of how real it looks.
Kathryn Grau “Jack and Sally”
12x18”, color pencil and pastel chalk on paper, 2018
I got my idea for the drawing because it’s Halloween season so I thought it would be fun to draw a split portrait of the two since there from one of my favorite movies. The artwork represents my childhood because the “The Nightmare Before Christmas” is one of my favorite childhood movies so drawing the main characters reminds me of my childhood Halloweens. If I could change anything I would change the materials I used because the chalk made it harder to look nice and clean. I love how Jack’s side is black and white and Sally’s side is colored because I feel it describes their personality from the movie and I feel it looks more unique.
Kathryn Grau "Sports"
9x12', Acrylic Paint, 2018
I got my idea because I play many sports and there important to me. This is important to me because it represents what I love. First, I drew out my drawing and moved it to styrofoam then painted it on paper. If I could change anything it would be the colors I picked. I love how real the balls look.
Kathryn Grau “Galaxy”
12x18”, Scratch Art, 2018
I got my idea because I wanted to do something cool on scratch and I thought a galaxy would look unique. This artwork is special to me because it was my first time doing a scratch art and i feel it turned out really good. If I could change anything I would fix the areas that began to peel so the drawing would be more smooth. I love how the moon and rocket ship look together because of the black and white make it pop out.
Kathryn Grau “Spooky Season”
12x18”, Color pencil, 2018
I drew a halloween themed drawing because it was almost halloween when I started it and I thought it would be fun to draw a seasonal drawing. The artwork represents my favorite time of the year so it shows my favorite items that describe Halloween. If I could change anything I would add a festive background to add color and not be so boring. I love the pumpkin and how it sits on the plant and looks realistic.
