18", Clay, 2026
I got the idea to make this coke cup for my uncle because he likes collecting coke memorabilia. I made some coils and started stacking the coils up to 18" tall, then I added the coke bottle and the engraved coca-cola name. I want my audience to think about the old glass coca cola cups that youd get in a restaurant. The difficult part was making the coke bottle just right so it would look halfway decent on the vessel. This is a expressive piece. I love the way the inside came out.
This idea came to life by having a week to make clay objects on the wheels. I used the wheel to make this bowl the way it came out with the shape and the color I chose because I like the way the finish came out. I want my audience to think about how there is always light in the dark. There was nothing hard about making this besides trying to center it on the wheel. This is expressive because it expressed the feeling of not finding light in the dark meaning there is always help when you are at your lowest.
I got the idea to make the coke bear from making the coke cup vessel. I just make a slab of clay and then cut out the design of the coke bear. I want my audience o thiink about the old coca cola ads that would have like santa clause and the bear and they can reminisce the past. There wasnt anything difficult about this pece souly because it isnt really a hard shape to carve oput of clay. This is an expressive piece because it expresses the good ole days.
