The idea is basically that the king and Queen have been killed and no longer are reigning. My idea originated from this book idea I have had for a while where the main girl leads a resistance against the Royals of her kingdom and kills them to “topple” the “corrupt” people in charge. It at first was only going to do one crown but it felt later it needed the Queens as well to be complete. The first thing I did was start on the wallpaper, using a ruler and tracing with a white chalk pencil. Next, I added all the small details and colored them in multiple times. After that, I quickly did the floor tiles. After that, I pulled up a reference for a crown and drew that on a separate paper, then cut it out after coloring it in. Then I used a red chalk pencil for the blood but didn’t like how it looks so I went over it with red paint and added highlights with white. At this point, I had finished my previous idea and it still felt unfinished so I decided to do a Queen’s crown as well. So I used the same process as the king, sketching it on a separate piece of paper. Coloring it in then cutting it out. I glued both crowns on and refreshed some of the colors on the wallpaper and it was done. Basically, the pool of blood on the ground and crowns just laying on the ground are trying to convey that they have been murdered and the previous government has been “toppled”. I want people to look at this and see that immediately. Im not that great with shading and I really struggled on it for the floor tiles. I also struggled with getting the colors dark enough for what I needed. I solved this by using paint because the medium I was working with was not going to get any dark no matter how many layers. If I started over I probably would have redone the floor because it looks messy and unfinished, there’s even a smear of white where there shouldn’t and it distracts away from everything else. I would say this is not quite realistic or any style, it’s like a representative cartoonish looking drawing because the realism I tried for didn’t really come across in the finished product. The blood I would say makes it unique to me because a lot of my drawings of people often include it. My favorite part of it is how cool the wall came out and the details in it.

"Cracking and Drifting"

My idea was to show how the melting of the icecaps was affecting the local wildlife. I was thinking of something impactful works of art I could do and came to the conclusion it would be my animal work. Which helped me come up with penguins one of my friend’s favorite animals. The idea to have it cracking and drifting apart came quickly after because it’s always been a dream of mine to do something like that. I made a draft of penguin first put it didn’t turn out how I wanted so I threw the one away and started anew with a different photo reference. Then I colored it in carefully and shaded everything before cutting it out then promptly cutting it up. After that I colored in the blue water background, mixing it with hand sanitizer. After that, I coated it completely in tape. All that was left was to attach all the pieces of the penguin. This artwork is to symbolizes the effects of global warming and the melting of ice caps on the wildlife that live on it. I want my audience to think about it because I feel we as a population has forgotten about this issue. Im very bad at realism so I really struggled with that, mostly the water which I just couldn’t get right. If I could start over I would definitionally redo that so it looks more realistic and changes the paper material I drew it on because it wasn’t the best for getting an even coloring across the whole page. I would call this realistic art, I made it my own style by incorporating 3D pieces to it which I like to do a lot.

"The Main Attraction"

My idea was a girl getting stabbed in the back in the middle of the stage while everyone watches and she acts like nothing is wrong. I got this idea because it’s loosely based on a metaphorical thing that happened to me. So the dancer is me and she’s a dancer because so am I. I cut out a dozen small flowers and other specific magazine pieces and then glued them out to their own separate sheets of paper correlating to what they are. Next, I cut out my sketch and traced that onto the sheets of paper, and cut all of the pieces of colored magazines. I then glued them all together on a separate piece of paper and cut that off. I grabbed a blank sheet of black construction paper and grabbed a sharpie to make a slightly different black floor. I then got a bunch of red attraction-based pictures for the curtains, cut those out, and then glued them on in the right place. Next was making a small circle of paper and attaching them to the back of the girl then glaring them onto the stage to make her stand out a little more. Finally was drawing the details on her face, hair, arms, and clothes. This artwork symbolized a girl getting stabbed in the back and then keeping the performance going and acting like nothing is wrong, while the crowd doesn’t notice. I want people to think of this as a real-life thing put ore not actually getting stabbed just the mental version of it. The words on the sword symbolize that it’s made of words, not metal. I think cutting all of the fingers especially since they were so small was the hardest part of this project. I did accidentally have a glue accident where lots of parts of the girl came off but I overcame that by drawing over those with similar coloring and using a sharpie to make cracks to show that she is broken which fit with the theme. I don’t think I would change that mess up if I did it again, it improved the whole artwork. This is my own personal cartoon style that I use for most of my at-home drawings.
