This is my baseline ceramic.
Ellie Lake "Pitcher"
5.5x5, clay & glaze, 2022
Everyone in the class had to create a pitcher so I had to make it my own. I started by first creating the pitcher. I made my pitcher just the basic shape and size. But then I wanted to make the glaze unique. The process first started by creating the pitcher with a outline. Then I put it in the kiln. Next I glazed it. I used the sponge tool a lot to get all of the edges smooth. I used no iconography or symbolism I just used blue flowers because I like them. I want my audience to think about the pretty blue flowers. The thing that was the most difficult for me was making the handle and it not bending. I overcame this struggle by being patient and taking my time. If I could start over I think I would make the edges smoother. This is realistic art because it is a real pitcher that you can use. Its unique to me because of the flowers. I love the the pink and blue colors.
Ellie Lake "Chip and Dip"
6x1 & 3x1, Clay & glaze, 2022
Everyone in the class had to create a chip and dip bowl. So that is where my idea came from. I got inspiration to make the bowls blue because that is my favorite color. First I started by rolling out the clay to create nice and even slabs. Then I laid then on the circles so they could dry in the bowl shape. Next I noticed that the edges of my bowl were a little bit uneven so I decided to make the edges scalloped to make a pattern and it hid the uneven edges. This artwork is a big bowl for chips and a small bowl for dip. I want my audience to think about what kind of chios and dip they would use in these bowls. There is no symbolic imagery in the work. The thing that was the most difficult for me was creating the scalloped edges. I overcame this struggle by sketching it out first. If I started over I would make the small bowl a little more even. This is realistic art because it is bowls you can use. It is unique because the scalloped edges and blue color. I love the line pattern i used.
Ellie Lake "Droopy face"
6x6, clay & glaze, 2022
My idea to begin was to create a large sun with a face on it. I got this idea from my grandma who passed away. My cousins and I would call her grandma sunshine so now the sun makes me think of her. This idea evolved because I wanted to also add a face onto it. This process took me a very long time. I had worked on this project the longest by far. I started by first getting a large circle of clay cut out. Then I cut out each individual ray on sun. Then I made the different parts of the faces and put then onto the sun. Once I finished building I set my project out to dry and when I went to pick it up the entire project crumbled. So I then had to start completely over. The second time around I made the face much smaller and decided to not make it a sun to save some time. This artwork is just something I came up with it has no deeper meaning. I want my audience to think about what this artwork is or whos face they're looking at. The thing that was the most difficult for me was to have to start completely over after spending lots of time on creating my first project. I overcame this struggle by trying to make my second try good even though it was not the same. If I started over I would've been more careful the first time around so I did not need to restart and make a project I was not as happy with. Thi is abstract art. It is unique because it is not a normal looking face. I love how it looks different.
Ellie Lake "wheel thrown clay"
3x1 & 2.5x1 & 2x2, clay and glaze , 2022
The idea was wheel thrown clay. For each one my idea was to try and create small little bowls. My ideas stayed the same but with each bowl I tried to create a different shape. First I started by throwing the slab down and then making the bowl. I just use my hands and the wheel. I want my audience to think about what they would use these bowls for. The entire process of wheel thrown clay was very difficult because I had never done it before. I overcame this struggle by getting better every time. If I started over now they would be better because I would have more experience.
Ellie Lake & Kari Casel "The Girl & The Chicken "
Imovie, model magic clay, cardboard, paint, paper, 2022
Our idea to start was to create a movie that involved a girl and a chicken crossing the road. First we started by creating the background. We used cardboard and paper to make a sky and grass. We also added cotton balls and paint to make it more realistic. Next we created our characters using model magic clay. Then we took all of the pictures. Lastly we edited all the pictures together on imovie and added effects. The thing most difficult was to get the camera angle correct. We overcame this struggle by taking our time. If I started over I would take the time to edit the video perfectly.
Ellie Lake "blue mug"
4x3, clay & glaze, 2022
My idea for this project was to make a mug. I wanted to make a mug because it would be something I could actually use when I bring it home. First I stared by rolling out an even sheet of clay and rolling it into a tube shape and added the bottom piece. Next I added the handle. To make my handle I used a 2 long snakes of clay and twisted them together for a cool handle look. Then I used a needle took and made squiggle lines to make a pattern. Lastly after all the firing I glazed it and made the entirety of the mug light blue and made the squiggle lines dark blue. There is no deeper meaning it is just a mug.The thing most difficult for me was to make the handle. I overcame this by taking my time. If I started over I think I would have added more of a pattern. This is realistic because its a real mug. I love how I will be able to use this.
