Ellie Lake "Layer Cake"
11x14, Acrylic Paint, 2025
My idea for this painting was to paint a cake and use really thick paint to almost make it 3D. I came up with this idea because I wanted to paint some type of food and landed on a cake.
The first thing I did was paint the background. The second thing I did was sketch out the cake. The third thing I did was paint the cake and I really focused on packing the paint on the frosting parts to make it look realistic. The last thing I did was add shading and candles.
This artwork does not have any deeper meaning it was just something I came up with.
The thing that was the most difficult for me was adding the shading on the cake stand and making it look realistic. I overcame this by just taking my time on it. If I started over I would add more details to the cake.
I would say this style of art is realistic. This painting is unique to my own personal style because of the simplicity. The thing I love most about this painting is the texture on the cake.
