Ellie Lake "Nathan and I"
8x8, acrylic paint, 2024
My idea was to paint a picture of my boyfriend and I. I got the idea to paint this picture because its my favorite picture of us.
First I found the picture and sketched out a picture of it. Next I painted the background of the picture pink. Then I drew on the picture. Lastly I painted everything and added details.
This artwork means a lot to me because Nathan is one of my favorite people. There is no symbolic imagery to this painting and is just a picture of one of my favorite pictures.
The thing that was the most difficult thing for me was to make the faces of the people look realistic. I overcame the struggles by printing out a picture to observe. If I started over I would make the background more interesting.
This artwork is realistic. Its unique because I have never painted us two before. I love the pink background because its my favorite color.
Ellie Lake "Pink"
11x14,Acrylic Paint, 2024
My idea to begin with was to paint a bow because I like them and they are trendy right now. I got the idea because I was shopping for art to go in my room and I found a bow print I really liked and I thought I could make this.
I used acrylic paints to create this painting. I painted the bow in soft pink, adding shading for depth, and kept the background plain white to highlight it.
The pink bow symbolizes softness and joy, but also hidden strength. The simple background makes the bow the focal point, inviting the viewer to think about the deeper meanings in everyday objects.
The hardest part was getting the bow’s texture to look realistic. I’d add more contrast or texture to the background if I started over, but I like its simplicity.
The painting mixes minimalism with a touch of realism. The bold use of pink and white reflects my clean, modern style. I love how it feels both delicate and strong.
Ellie Lake "Iced Coffee"
11x14,Acrylic Paint, 2024
I painted a cup of iced coffee from above because I love how everyday things, like coffee, can feel special. The brown background adds warmth, making the coffee feel cozy and inviting.
I used acrylic paints to create the background first, then painted the iced coffee with details on the ice and liquid. I focused on light and shadow to make it look realistic, but kept the composition simple.
The iced coffee represents comfort and small joys. The bird’s-eye view shows how something ordinary can feel interesting when seen from a new angle.
The hardest part was getting the ice to look realistic. If I started over, I might add more detail to the background, but I like its simplicity.
This is a realistic yet minimal painting. The simple view and warm colors make it feel calm and focused. I love how it makes something everyday look special.
