Brooke Crank "The Girl"
Colored paper, paint, graphite, 2023
I got the idea of the girl from Pinterest and I wanted to add more to it and make it my own. I wanted to add more details and design it more to my liking.
I started with the idea of the silhouette of the girl and then decided I wanted to add flowers and the leaf pattern on her arm. I think sketched my idea and traced it over styrofoam. Then I indented my drawing and painted over it with a roller. Then I placed my foam piece onto the paper and pressed it to create my picture.
From my perspective, the artwork has somewhat of a feminine feeling and I want my audience to see how it shows that. The artwork represents an outline of a woman who loves flowers.
The most difficult part for me was choosing an idea. I wanted something that I liked and something that would look nice after it was printed out. If I could change anything I would stencil my drawing deeper and press harder to show all of my detail in the final product.
I would say that this artwork is more abstract than anything else. I think this because it is a silhouette of a woman and flowers are coming out of her head and leaves down her arm. I love how this piece came together and how it is simple but also abstract.
