What creative risks did you take, or what is something new you tried or learned?
While I was creating this art piece It was difficult to cut out people from the fabric so I had to improvise and I used construction paper to show my people instead of the fabric.
What do you like the most about your finished work?
I like the flowers a lot because before I added them my Arpillera was kind of plain and had all dark colors but when I added the flowers it added some color to my art piece.
What would you change if you could start over?
If I could start over on my Arpillera I would probably show my message black lives matter a little more in my actual artwork instead of just putting the words on my Arpillera.
Chilean Arpillera
12x12, I used fabric, construction paper, glue, yarn, and scissors to make my Arpillera.
What was the source of inspiration for your work?
My inspiration for making this art piece was the Arpilleras that we looked at in class and what's happening in the world right now with all of the BLM protesting and riots.
What was your process for creating this work?
My process for creating this Arpillera was first I picked my topic to do it on and then I drew a sketch in my notebook to get inspiration, then I started creating my art piece.
In what way did you demonstrate persistence or problem solving when you faced challenges?
I demonstrated a problem that was happening in our world right now and what has always been happening by showing African Americans protesting and rioting and I showed them with signs and buildings on fire.
Harriet Tubman Memorial
9x12 piece of paper and I used graphite to draw my memorial and added shading along with perspective.
What was the source of inspiration for your work?
My source of inspiration for this work was all of the memorials we looked at in class and the memorials already made for recognition for Harriet Tubman and those inspired me to want to make a memorial about her.
What was your process for creating this work?
My process for creating this memorial was first I had to research about memorials already made for her so it wouldn't be a copy of someone else's work and then I had to map out what I wanted to do in my sketchbook. So as I was drawing I had to envision what I wanted it to look like. After I created some examples of what I wanted to do I finally started on my final piece and started drawing.
In what way did you demonstrate persistence or problem solving when you faced challenges?
I demonstrated persistence and problem solving when I didn't have a horizon line on my art piece and it made my art piece look like it was going on forever so I had to draw in a horizon line and fix the brick around my memorial to make it look more realistic.
What creative risks did you take, or what is something new you tried or learned?
A creative risk that I took was when I was working with the oil pastels, I've never really drawn anything with oil pastels so it was an experience and I think it came out pretty well and there easy to blend.
What do you like the most about your finished work?
The thing I like the most on my finished piece is the checkered pattern or the sky with the colored pencils because I think they look well done and the sky looks pretty and the colors worked together well.
What would you change if you could start over?
If I could start over and change something I would probably change the pattern of the land piece in the back by the water because I feel like it could be better.
The Scream
9x12, I used paper, colored pencil, graphite, and oil pastels for this project.
What was the source of inspiration for your work?
My source of inspiration was the different versions of the scream painting and in my sketchbook, I was drawing patterns during my free time and I got the idea of doing zentangle for recreating this art piece.
What was your process for creating this work?
My process of creating this recreation was first, started off in my sketchbook drawing out my plan and what I wanted to do for my idea. Then I started picking the colors that I thought would be a good fit. Then I started on my final and added all of the zentangle patterns and colors creating my recreation.
In what way did you demonstrate persistence or problem solving when you faced challenges?
I demonstrated persistence and problem solving by adding more color and patterns to the person who is screaming because he looked bland and didn't have much color so I added zentangles and patterns to his clothing.
