"Tangled"

This art piece resembles teen anxiety. The feeling you get in your stomach that is described as knots. But an important part of this piece is that the pieces can be untangled, to show relief. I started by rolling out clay and creating three tiny slabs from a needle. I then put them together and morphed their shape to my desire. After they dried in the kiln, I sanded them and tried to think of neutral colors that show bland and numb feelings like anxiety. When I think of knots in my stomach I think of intestines, and bland colors. Something that I would do differently is make a bigger art piece, and not jus three slabs. I would also make them have less edges and more smooth. But what I love about this art is that it is simplistic and hows beauty in anxiety. It shows that there is light through the tunnel. To show this, you are able to take apart the slabs, to show relief of anxiety.
"Snake"

This was inspired by the twisted candles I saw on pinterest, which gave an eye-catching effect of something you dont normally see. My aesthetic is many different things, but one thing it is is simplistic. I love the twisted candles I see and zen-gardenish type things. I used the same process as "Tangled" to create this project, cutting out slabs and glazing them. If I could change one thing about this, I would make the slab a little bit bigger. But I love the coloring and that it matches my "Emerald City" dip bowl. It reminds me of a snake because of how smooth it is and strong. I would also make the ends smoother, and fix the indents on the bottom to make it more stable. But I also love the heaviness of it because it can be used for more than just decoration and be multifunctional.
This bowl is mainly for decoration, but could fit under kitchenware, jewelry, etc. It is a simple blue and creamy white bowl to hold anything. To start off, I through clay on the wheel and it started off pretty well. I was still in the thought process of what I wanted to make, and I was thinking of my seashell jewelry holder and decided to coralate it back to that. I love the beach and the ocean, and blue decorative items. I knew that I also wanted a new holder for my keys and loose change, so I decided to make a spare change bowl. I started forming it and did my repetetive process of making the edges thick, then thin, and then thicker again. I also wanted a thick center but knew it couldn't be too bulky or it would break in the kiln. I also messed up a few times and made the edges uneven, but I really like the uneveness because it makes it unique and different from other bowls. It also reminds me of a wave because it is blue and one of the edges is higher than the other. I then glazed and added stoppers on the bottom so I can keep it on surface areas.
