(Clay, 2025)
This is my baseline project; it's a magnet. I have always loved flowers, and it's one of my favorite things to make with art. The color pops, and it's a fun shape to look at. I've painted and drawn these types of flowers before. It reminds me of tropical. I started by making the pedal individual. Then added them onto a flat piece of clay to hold it together, and smoothed it out. I curled up the end parts and added the middle. I had to roll up little balls to add. Once it was fired, I was debating whether to use paint or glaze. I like the glazed look and feel, but I used paint for the color. I painted it pink, added glitter paint, and added yellow to the middle. Once the paint dried, I used a spray to make it shiny and secure it. Being able to make a flower instead of just drawing and painting it 2D, I'm able to make it 3D. If I started over, I would change the way the paint goes and add more shading and lighting in certain places. It has more of a realistic look rather than a fake one. I tried to make the shape close to an actual flower.
(Your Own Heart)
(clay, 2025)
I wanted to make something that's realistic. I decided to make an actual heart. When you think of heart, you would think of the drawing kind, which is why I wanted to surprise. I started with a flat piece of clay and layered another one on top, but it was hollow inside, so it wouldn't blow up like my last project. I shaped it out as best as possible, then added the "veins". I then added the artery cords. Once it dried, it was fired and ready for me to glaze. I used a red glaze for the base. The glaze I used on the veins was supposed to be gold, but then turned out a greyish brown. I didn't like how it looked, so I painted over it and made it a dark blue. The most difficult part was to get the perfect shape and make it turn out the way it needed to look, but not every heart looks the same, even if we can't fully see our hearts. This made me think that how it looks doesn't need to be "perfect". I loved the way it turned out in the end and how I fixed the imperfections.
