(Scraping Hand)
(Clay, 2024)
The idea was to make a flat face first. I would then make the hand, place it halfway over, and make it as realistic as possible. I scrapped lines going up looking like the hand is pulling on the face. I used tools that would pull the clay and indent it. I smoothed it out as much as possible. Adding extra detail to the hand like fingernails and veins. The glaze I used was gold and silver put together to seem like a sculpture type of color. I got this idea from mental health to relate to others. When looking at this I can see it being draining. Someone in your life that represents the hand pulling away your personality. Feeling like you can't take a breath and you can't get away. Being surrounded by people who have mental health problems makes me see how they feel without me feeling it myself. The hardest part of this piece was the hand, making it look as realistic as possible. I ended up looking at my hand so I could get a reference. I love how this idea came out.
(Flower pitcher)
(2024)
We had to make these in class and seeing examples the idea was to add a leaf type of flower but not all around on half of the pitcher. I know I wanted it to be two different colors so I got a greenish color for the flower part. The black is glittery and was recommended with the pitcher. It did take a couple of extra coats with how thin it was but came out amazing. I used the Slab Roller machine which had a bottom and folded it together. Thinking I didn't want a handle but seeing I think I should. I added a spiral handle to add a little extra to it. Since it's glazed you will be able to put water in it safely. I loved making this without a full idea and coming up with things while working on it.

(Slump drape)
(2024)
We had to make a "Slump drape" which is when you have a round piece of styrofoam and kinda drop it on the table for the clay to fall down in the middle like a bowl. The blue bowl has a pattern on it used with a stamp. The bowl is a medium-sized bowl. Not knowing what color to use I closed my eyes and found a little blue. The black bowl is a small size and was made the same way with a stamp. Using a glaze I saw had glitter in it I used. The most difficult part was when you had to smooth the sides but didn't wanna smooth out the patterns. It still was smoothed out and came out not bad and the pattern is still there.
(All around)
(2024)
The idea was to make a flower base, but it wasn't getting even. At the top, I wanted to make a star, so I shaped it that way and thought of adding starfish. I added two stars and then worked from that and just kept thinking of what to add. I ended up making animals that were in the ocean, but I added a lizard and made that part with leaves. So it's just a mix of everything, and I wanted it to be detailed, so I added coils. The most difficult was probably glazing. With some things that broke off, it was hard to glaze it back on. Also, I am trying to not get on the other things. Picking out the right color was also difficult even when it didn't turn out how I wanted. I would like to change the lizard part and just make everything lighting on the blues. I love how the bubbles turned out tho and how it didn't bleed color.
(Cardboard Whale)
(2025)
I got this idea online. I got the option in class to make a cardboard sculpture and decided to do a sea animal. I looked up on the internet some ideas and wanted to do a shark but I just ended up doing a whale. I randomly designed it without having a full idea. I started by cutting the cardboard and hot-gluing everything together. Next, I used masking tape and taped the whole thing for more structure. Then I got a cup of modge podge, used paper towels, and layered the whole thing to harden into a sturdy canvas to paint on. I used a black base color and it had an undertone of blue. I added stripes of white and grey and was spacing it out knowing I wanted to add dots. I made the underneath of the front and the fins white. The hardest part was getting the right shape. Making it smooth was hard too. But since a lot of my art is "ocean-themed" I wanna keep adding on. I've always thought everything under the water is beautiful and has meaning.
