Drawing Artist Statement
Amaya Tallman “Frozen”
9x12, Alcohol Markers and Colored Pencils, 2021
My idea for this drawing was wanting to draw something that seemed like it could be moving but was also frozen in time. I sketched my original idea on a small piece of paper and then used a ruler to lightly draw my sketch on a normal piece of paper. Then I colored the background in with markers and colored the plants and fish tank with colored pencils. I want the audience to think about how life can be overwhelming and stressful and to enjoy the little things. The most difficult part of this project was using the colored pencils because I don’t use them much. I practiced using those colored pencils before to overcome that problem. If I started over I would have chosen more muted colors for the background. I drew this art piece as realistic but added my own style by not shading to make it seem a bit more fake. I love the little potted plants I drew.
