18x24, Graphite and Oil Pastels, 2021

My idea for this drawing was taken from a picture I took of my cat. I was going to draw just that picture but ended up editing the photo to my liking. I sketched my drawing with a graphite pencil and then colored it in with different colors of oil pastels. I smoothed my oil pastels together with a tissue. When I drew this artwork I wanted to capture the sun going through my cat's ears in a drawing. Drawing the cat was the most difficult part of this drawing because of the proportions. I overcame this struggle by looking at my reference photo. If I were to start over I would have drawn in my pencil a lot lighter so it wouldn’t interfere with the pastels as much. I tried to draw this as realistically as I could. It's unique to my style because of the shading. I really enjoy not shading as much as other realistic artists. I love the way the oil pastels are layered in my drawing.
