Ana Henningsen "Sunset Views"
8x10, Landscape, 2022
My idea was to create a colorful sunset and try to capture the colors that are in a real-life sunset. I got my idea from always watching the sunsets at my house and when I looked at the sun setting there was a big tree in the view. I noticed many oranges, reds, and pinks in the sunset and then the sky darkening above.
I first started out by blending dark blue and pink until I was satisfied with the color. Next, I started to blend the pink and yellow and then went on to blend the light yellow with orange. After I blended all the sunset colors I used a very light yellow to make a half-circle. Lastly, I used black and made the ground and the tree.
This painting means peaceful. It is supposed to be calming and have a peaceful effect.
The most difficult thing for me to do was to blend the black with the orange/red color. Also, I had to make sure that the tree looked semi-realistic. I just took my time with the black and made sure to not mess anything up.
I like how the tree stands out from the rest of it and with the sun setting it looks like everything else has no color so the only thing that has any beauty is the sunset.
Ana Henningsen "Polaroid on Paper"
8x10, Polaroid Portrait, 2022
My idea was to use a photo I took with my Grandma and remake it. Since the picture I had was a polaroid. So I decided to use that as my border for this painting.
I first had to start out by making sure the border was correct and then went in with a pencil to start outlining the people. Then I did the wall and side pieces. After that, I painted the people but without the faces.
This artwork represents a bond between a grandma and her granddaughter.
The most difficult thing for me to do was to add texture to walls since the wall was not just a solid color, it was a mix of lights and reds. I took my time and tried my best to make it look as similar as possible to the picture.
This is a realistic painting of a photo. It is without faces to keep it simple.
Ana Henningsen "Rubber Duck"
9x12, Still Life, 2022
My idea was to recreate my childhood memory by painting a rubber duck in water. Just like you put a rubber duck in the tub when you were younger
(PROCESS) Explain your process. What tools and techniques did you use?
I started off by mixing different shades of blues and mixed all of them. Then I made the rubber duck with yellow and worked on the shading on the wing and then started on the shadows. Then I did the beak with an orange color.
This painting is meant to be a memory of your childhood.
(ARTISTIC GROWTH) What was most difficult for you? How did you overcome the struggles? What would you change if you started over?
The most difficult thing for me to do was make the water look realistic. If I could start over I would re-do the shadowing.
