Ana Henningsen "Flower Tree"
9x12, Acrylic, 2023
My idea was to recreate a sunset painting from my freshman year. But this time I switched it up and just worked on the blending and made sure to improve on that. I still painted a tree from the first painting but did it from a different perspective.
I first started with layering colors and then started blending it. It took me a while to get the colors just right so there was a lot of layering that I did with different reds and pinks. I used water to make sure there were no definite lines that were being shown. Then I waited for it to dry and worked on sketching the tree and flowers. I then painted the tree and then the flowers last.
The artwork is a sign of spring time because that is when flowers are starting to bloom on trees and is a sign of life.
Most difficult thing for me was the blending. I was trying to redo a painting that I did my freshman year and work on blending more. I did not want a definite line in the sky so I used some water to mix with paint and then it made it easier to blend the colors. If I could change anything I would change the tree and make it more realistic.
I think that this art would be some type of realistic. Because it is a sunset, it makes it unique to my own personal style because I was redoing a work of art I did earlier.

My idea was to create something that reminds me of spring. I started off doing a textured background of different colors that I liked. I had never done any textured work before so it was something different to do.
I first started with the background and I chose oranges and pinks because they are my favorite colors and they are bright and remind me of spring. I used splotches of different colors in different spots and added texture. Then I started with the flowers and placed them before I started the stems. To make the flowers I used a bunch of different colors, mixed some together, and did small dots in the shape of the flower. After I was done with the flowers I started on the stems and did different shades of greens to make it seem more realistic.
My painting doesn't have a specific meaning but the past paintings I have done are all about nature and have a similar color theme.
The most difficult part would be trying to make the stems look realistic. I had to redo them a few times before I finally liked them. I had to use different shades of green to make highlights in the stems.
I think that this would be realistic and what makes it unique to my own personal style would be the colors I used. I used oranges and pinks which seem to be what colors I use in almost all of my paintings too.
