Ana Henningsen "Balloon Dog"
9x13, Acrylic, 2025
To start of the second part of this class I wanted to work on paintings that seemed more realistic(ish) and have my paintings have more dimension. I just thought of this and thought it would be a good start to try and make my paintings look more real.
So first I sketched it out on the canvas in pencil and then I erased the lines so they wouldn't show up. Then I just painted the background a off white color because I felt like the background was to bright and wanted the focus to be on balloon dog. Then I started to paint the pink background and then just started to layer the pinks to make it look it was shiny. That part took a while because I kept redoing the pinks becuase I didnt like how they looked together. Then after I got the layering right I went in with white and sort of highlighted where they light would be and making it shiny. Lastly I just went over the background again to clean up the edges.
There is no symbolic imagery, I was just focusing on trying to make my painting seem more real which was my goal for this semester.
Most difficult thing for me was probably where to put the highlights and getting the pink layering right so it made it seem more real. If I could start over I think I would change the placement of some of the brighter pink.
I think this is more on the realistic side, and the thing I like about it most is that from far away it actually looks pretty good.
