Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) provide therapy services for children who have difficulty with communication skills. Cannon County School System has four SLPs int he district who provide services at different schools for children between the ages of 3 years old to 22 years old (Pre-K through 12th grade). Before services begin, the child must have an evaluation to determine if he or she has a disorder. Children may experience one or more of the following disorders:
Speech Sound disorders-include problems with articulation (making sounds) and phonological processes (sound patterns)
Language disorders-difficulty understanding what they hear as well as expressing themselves with words
Stuttering (fluency) disorders-interruption of the flow of speech that may include hesitations, repetitions, or prolongations of sounds or words
Voice disorders-quality of voice that may include hoarseness, nasality, or volume
