Late Work Policy for Essays and Projects

  • Students who pass an assignment in on time will be able to revise work within a two-week window.

  • Work that is not submitted on the due date will be considered a final draft, and assessed accordingly without the opportunity for revision.

  • Students who miss a due date have 1 week from the due date of the assignment to submit a final draft of the assignment.

  • Work that is submitted after the teacher’s final deadline may result in a failing grade for the assignment and/or course due to insufficient and/or incomplete evidence for assessment.

Revising Essays

If you want to revise an essay, there are certain steps you must take:

  1. Pass the essay in on the due date. Even one day late will forfeit your revision opportunity.

  2. Meet with me after school to go over your essay.

  3. Submit the revision stapled on top of the first essay and rubric.

  4. In order to receive a significantly higher grade, you need to make significant revisions.

  5. You have two weeks from the due date to submit an essay for revision, unless I am late in passing the graded essay back to you. I strive to return all essays within one week from the due date. If I am past that timeframe, I will extend the revision period.

Important Information

Please format all written work according to MLA guidelines:

  • Left align your heading information: name, date, course, assignment (see top of this document for example)

  • Times New Roman (or Mac default font), size 12

  • Double-space (under formatting, not hitting the enter button twice at the end of each line)

  • 1-inch margins around the document, not 1.25, which may be your computer’s current default setting. If your computer is set to 1.25, you should change your default settings so you don’t turn in an improperly formatted document.

eSchool Data

I will update eSchool Data as often as I can, which (hopefully) will be almost everyday. However, I do not always pass the work back to you immediately because sometimes students are absent from a test or quiz and I don’t want the assessment information floating around until all students have taken the test or quiz. I expect that you check eSchool Data on a regular basis to keep track of your performance. As I am human, on occasion I accidentally post a grade incorrectly in eSchool Data. It is wise to keep all your graded work and check the grade on the paper with the grade in eSchool Data. Please alert me to any mistakes, and feel free to schedule an after-school meeting with me to discuss any grades in further detail.

Retakes

There are 2 allowed retakes on tests or quizzes per trimester. If there are extenuating circumstances, please see me. The basic goal of a reading test or quiz is to assess whether or not you read and understood the novel. I am not trying to trick you, so as long as you read the assignments, participate in class discussions, and follow the directions on the assessment, you’ll do fine and will not require a retake.

Late Work

Students have up to a week from the original due date to submit an assignment for half credit. Students must also meet with me as soon as possible to discuss any potential extentions or extenuating circumstances.
