Secondary Social Studies Curriculum Purpose and Rationale
Purpose:
Our purpose is to prepare and provide our students with a guaranteed and viable curriculum and to attain the high-achieving goals of creating active and advanced social and civic learners within the Social Studies curriculum.
Rational:
The implementation of the Wyoming Social Studies Content and Performance Standards and strong practices through the National Common Core Standards in English Language Arts is utilized to advance writing within our curriculum and serves as the foundation for the development and implementation of a guaranteed and viable curriculum.
The specific content areas will focus on concepts from the topic areas specified by the Wyoming Department of Education. The concept of time, continuity, and change covers the chronological historical events and their furcating effects on all aspects of society. The scaffolding to those events are defined within citizenship, government, and democracy as the definition of central control is specified in American context. Production, distribution, and consumption applies those differentiated effects from historical and governmental concepts on the consumers and their relationship to the market environment around them. The interactions between people and their surroundings as differentiated through cultural diversity while identifying people, places, and environments. The topics covered within our curriculum utilize the advancement of technology, literacy, and global connections to make the social and civil learner a whole in the social sciences.
