WCJH SEL
Mindful Moment
Remember being mindful is not reminding yourself to be mindful but to live in the moment authentically. Trains of thought will come and go. We are the observer of those thoughts. We can have emotions tied to thoughts, but we shouldn't focus or hide specific thoughts. This will lead to emotional outbursts and "uncontrolled" feelings. Remember to be in touch with you feelings, but not overwhelmed by them. Take a moment to be mindful.
Body Scan
Take a moment to get yourself grounded. If your thoughts have your head in the clouds and stress is over taking you remember these three tips:
Breathe - Always come back to the breath. The sensation of breathing can be enlightening
Take a walk - If you can get outside, we are not meant to be cooped up inside nonstop. Take a 10 minute walk with fresh air to clear you mind
Break up your stresses into smaller pieces. - You cannot do everything NOW. Things will be less overwhelming if you take one step at a time.
What is SEL again?
According to the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL), SEL is the process through which children and adult understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships and make responsible decisions.
Message 3.19.2020
Warriors,
You are missed! As you know, we have been working on building social emotional learning (SEL) strategies throughout this school year. With this in mind, we wanted to share helpful resources and strategies you can continue to use at home during this time. We know there have been a lot of changes recently. We are thinking of you and want to remind you of the practices you can do to take care of you, as well as the people around you!
And above all we wanted to remind you that, as always, we are Warrior strong!
