Welcome to IB HL Language and Literature! The IB has made some really exciting changes to this course allowing you to have a lot more autonomy in your learning. You will have more choice, more freedom and more control over your assessments. We are now able to structure the course in a way that enables you to make links between the texts you read and the world you live in, both locally and globally. You are also able to prepare for your assessments in a way that removes a lot of the stress and unknowns. This will help you to make the most of your learning. Most exciting, the inclusion of the "Learner Portfolio" gives every student a space to explore, explain and demonstrate what they've learned, reflect and make connections in independent and creative ways. This portfolio replaces some of the more structured assessments from the old course which means you have more creative freedom and less constraints on how you demonstrate your learning.
Thanks to the IB transition unit you completed last year, most of you are already familiar with some of the course components and expectations. That being said, we will still spend some time unpacking how we will proceed through the course, exploring the student handbook and looking different components and assessments before we dive into course content.
