These are subscription databases exclusively for CCS. These are high quality research sources that should be used every time you seek information.
JSTOR Academic Database: Database containing 29 academic journals & subject guides/areas of study for geographic/ethnic studies, the arts, business and economics, history, humanities, law, medicine, science, math, and various social sciences (75 subjects total). Click the red "Log In" button on the right and sign in with your CCS Gmail account. Then choose create account option on next page. There is also the login of U: canggu P: wisdom22.
FOR GALE DATABASES, if you are on campus, no log in is necessary. If you are off campus, the password is empower. You can also log in with your CCS Gmail name and password.
Gale in Context: High School: This is a general info database that covers all topics and subjects. For students in Years 9 to 13. Covers past topics, current events and all content areas taught at school. Contains more than 2 million articles, sources, videos, books and more. Use this database for all research pursuits. The password is empower.
Gale in Context: Middle School: videos, newspapers, magazines, primary sources and more specifically for Middle school/years students (Years 7 to 9). Categories cover a range of the most-studied topics including cultures, government, people, world history, literature, language arts, social studies, science, etc. Use this database for all research pursuits. The password is empower.
Gale OneFile: Popular Magazines: access to articles from the most popular magazines and newspapers in the world. Coveres news, current events as well as past reporting in all areas, from economics to science and more. Use this database for all research pursuits. The password is empower.
Gale Global Issues: focuses on issues in the areas of business and economics, conflict and diplomacy, society and culture, environment and climate change, and more. Gives arguments, critical analysis, editorials, perspectives and facts on modern issues and controversial topics. Over 350 geographically diverse newspapers, magazines, and journals. The password is empower.
Q-Files - research database for all topics and subjects (history, space, living things, etc). Choose from menu at the top or search in white box in upper right. Appropriate for Y7 to Y9 research activities.
WorldBook database - database with 3 differentiated levels for younger to older primary/middle school students. Good for all topics and general information.
Use the "Kids" version for Early Years/Y2, the "Discover" version for Y3 to Y5 and "Student" for some Y5/Y6 to Y8

SEARCH ENGINES: Use these to search for topics on the internet. Search engines are not websites; they find websites for you.
GENERAL INFORMATION
RefSeek: another good general reference search engine. Be sure to skip the ads on the top of the results pages.
Google Scholar: free search engine for scholarly information. Some results are summaries of other sources, while other results are full access to articles/books, etc.
CORE: academic search engine that focuses on open access research papers. A link to the full text PDF or complete text web page is supplied for each search result. It’s academic search engine dedicated to open access research papers.
Bing - general search engine with AI assistance.
RefDesk: search bar is on the left hand side. Quality general info search engine, with similar results to RefSeek.
Jurn: Free online search engine for accessing and downloading free full-text scholarly papers.
ERIC database: For research and scholarly work regarding education/teaching/schools
Britannica.com: Use the search box in the middle. Over 120,000 articles on all topics that are updated regularly.
New World Encyclopedia: A Wikipedia-style encyclopedia that claims to have better scholars and fact checkers while combining traditional info sources. General information as well as specific topics
ResearchGate: Scroll down to the search engine. May have to register (for free) to read some articles. Some content is paywalled.
Google Books: Combination of full text books as well as previews/summaries. Contains approximately 25,000,000 titles
DuckDuckGo: search engine that does not track your searches and is completely private.
CURRENT EVENTS
EIN Newswire: updated daily. Search in the white box in the upper right. Search more than one term (example:
"Indonesia Presidential election in Java") for the best results.
Google News: search in the box at the top of the page. Will give you the most recent news about that topic. Start with simple/one term and increase from there.
Reuters news service: search via the magnifying class icon on the right. Headers at the top denote the type of news/area of the world.
Trading Economies World News - Daily updated eonomic/business news categorized by country and region.
All Sides: up to date news site that shows the same stories from multiple media sources and biases. AllSides shows the different perspectives of various news sources. Homepage lists topics or search in the upper right.
AP World News: Choose topics/areas of the world at the top or search in the box in the upper right
Ground News: Ground News is a platform that makes it easy to compare news sources, read between the lines of media bias and algorithms.

SCIENCE
IngentaConnect: higher level database for science, medical and behavioral topics. Scroll down to "Show" to select only "all free" results. Results are from researchers who are self publishing as well as news content.
Semantic Scholar: High level open-source search engine for science topics.
Bielefeld Academic Search Engine (BASE): more than 240 million documents from more than 8,000 content providers. You can access the full texts of about 60% of the indexed documents for free (Open Access). For general science topics.
Science.gov: is a search engine developed and managed by the United States government. It includes results from a variety of scientific databases
PubMed: free full-text archive of biomedical and life sciences journal literature at the U.S. National Institutes of Health's National Library of MedicineNLM)
