Meet your Region 6 director - Laura Schoonover
Laura Schoonover, from Danville, VA, however, has lived in Roanoke, VA for 19 years. Laura has been a Registered Nurse for 19 years with experience in Cardiac Care Unit, Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department, PACU, and most recently teaching the Nurse Aide program with Roanoke County Public Schools. The educational aspect of nursing has been her passion, and she feels fortunate to now have this opportunity since 2022 to teach nursing courses to our aspiring future healthcare professionals.
The Nurse Aide program at Roanoke County Public Schools, held at Burton Center for Arts and Technology is a 2-year Introduction to Nursing Careers. Students have an opportunity for dual enrollment for Medical Terminology I & II as well as Introduction to Health Professions. Along with VBON Nurse Aide certification, students have an opportunity to be a Certified EKG Technician as well as many other certificates of completion.
Laura received her nursing degree from Danville Regional Medical Center, School of Nursing and then went on to receive her BSN from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is married to her husband, Brandon. They have 2 children, Leah and Luke. Laura looks forward to serving on the VAHAMSEA Board and representing District 6.
