Book Talking

Learn how to create fun and exciting book talks here!

Book talks are meant to entice someone to read a book. Basically, you are the salesman and your book is the product. When you're planning your talk, remember these four things:

  • Come up with a hook, something really cool that will make your friends think, "I want to read THAT book!"
  • Summary of the book; be brief and NO SPOILERS!
  • Selling points; is there something that happens that you and your fellow readers might be interested in or is there an amazing character who's really cool or splendidly evil or an emotional wreck or super shy?
  • Analysis of the book; this one's hard but think about the author. Did he or she hook you? Did he write the characters so they were believable? Did she include too much detail?
  • Here's a good template you can use to script your book talk.

Below are some examples of ways to do book talks.
