Intermediate and Advanced Orchestras
VIOLIN - VIOLA - CELLO - BASS - HARP
Experienced string players are thoughtfully placed into one of our carefully curated orchestras. This assignment takes into account their individual skill level and the need for a harmonious and well-balanced instrumentation within the ensemble. We also take into account the age of the camper so that they are placed into a socially age appropriate group. This approach allows us to tailor the repertoire for each orchestra, ensuring that the selected pieces align with the musicians' proficiency, promoting growth and excellence in their musical journey.
In addition to their primary music class, all campers have the opportunity to select from a variety of planned recreational and enrichment activities. These options include kickball, fiber arts, bucket drumming, nature walk, conducting, advanced techniques, and more.
GRADES:
Students entering grades 5-12 in the fall.
PREREQUISTE SKILLS NEEDED:
Minimum of one schoolyear experience on a violin, viola, cello, bass, or harp is required.
AUDITIONS:
Auditions are optional for the lower orchestras; however, auditions are mandatory for our top orchestra (Crescendo), for sectional leader positions in the lower orchestras, and to be considered for the chamber music track (grades 8-12). Auditions will be conducted virtually from April 15 to May 15. Detailed information can be found below.
Please note that we do not accept alternate audition materials. All students who wish to audition must audition on the assigned audition excerpts as listed below.
REGISTRATION:
OPTIONAL VIOLIN AUDITION
Practice one or both excerpts:
Romanza from Eine Kleine Natchmusik - excerpt as marked without repeat, tempo is Andante with a 45 bpm half note pulse.
Smetana Excerpt - first half as marked, tempo is Vivace.
Preparing and submitting both excerpts is strongly recommended for competitive consideration for the chamber music track.

Record your audition. State your full name clearly at the beginning of your video. Your face, hands, and instrument must be visible in the video.
Upload your audition to your Google Drive. Chesterfield students can use their school Google Drive; however, students from other school districts must use a personal or parent-owned Google Drive. (Neighboring school systems limit access by adults outside their school network for safety reasons.)
