Air Rifle Marksmanship Team
The NJROTC Air Rifle Marksmanship Team is a competitive precision shooting team based on the Civilian Marksmanship Program's (CMP) Three-Position Air Rifle standards. Cadets train and compete in the prone, standing, and kneeling positions using sporter class air rifles, developing discipline, focus, and attention to detail.
Our team has a proud tradition of excellence and has earned numerous accolades over the years. Notable achievements include winning the prestigious Area 5 Championship, dominating the Virginia Air Rifle League (VARL), and claiming top honors in several regional and national-level competitions.
Through rigorous training and teamwork, our cadets not only become outstanding marksmen but also embody the core values of NJROTC—honor, courage, and commitment. Whether you're a beginner or experienced shooter, our program offers a challenging and rewarding experience for all.

Three-Positions
In the prone position for air rifle shooting, lie flat on your stomach with your body stable and aligned with the target, using your sling and sling stop to support your rifle. Ensure smooth trigger control and proper breathing.
In the kneeling position for air rifle shooting, kneel on one knee with the kneeling pad under your foot with the other leg bent at a 90-degree angle, using your elbow and sling/sling stop to support the rifle for stability. This position along with the standing position makes and breaks the shooter’s score.
In the standing position for air rifle shooting, stand upright with your feet shoulder-width apart, holding the rifle with both hands and using your body to support it while maintaining balance. This is the most difficult position in our sport.
