Midlothian High School offers the most well-established IB Programme: The Diploma Programme
The IB Diploma Programme is a rigorous, two year, liberal arts, college preparatory programme that students take during their final two years of high school.
The IB DP requires students to take six, two-year, college level courses. Additionally, all IB DP students worldwide complete three core components:
The Extended Essay, a 4,000 word research based exploration of a topic of student choice
Theory of Knowledge, a course that explores the nature of knowledge and our relation to it
Creativity, Activity, and Service, which requires students to pursue balance between academic and non-academic pursuits.
Students earn college credit based on assessments, and can also use their IB Diploma to earn admission to schools throughout the world.
The IB, with it's broad, student centered approach to education, prepares students for any future college major or career.
College admissions offices recognize the IBDP as a rigorous, college-preparatory programme, and understand that IBDP graduates are well prepared to be successful in college.
IBDP graduates can earn significant college credit through their performance on IB assessments.
IBDP graduates report being well prepared for college, and research shows that graduates of the IBDP stay in collee and graduate at a higher level than non-IBDP graduates.
