IB Options for Midlothian High Students
Midlothian High School students may apply to enroll in the IB Programme between the end of the 9th-10th grade, all students choosing to enroll in the Midlo IB Diploma Program are accepted as Diploma candidates. Opting into the Full Diploma is a commitment to the IB Programme for your time left at Midlo.
In addition, Midlo also allows qualified junior and senior students to take IB courses without taking the path to the Diploma.
Students are admitted based on a balance of available spaces for each grade level, application submissions, and the student's readiness for the level of rigor expected out of our curriculum. Interested students should talk to their MHS Counselor to inquire if they'd be a good fit and if they'd qualify to take an IB course.
Here are the different IB pathways offered at Midlo:
1) Full IB Diploma Programme: For students on track to earn the IB Diploma - with up to 45 potential college credits - and dual diplomas upon earning the IB Diploma.
Read what's expected of the IB Diploma student in earning the IB Diploma here.
2) IB Certificate Student: For students who take one or more IB courses that would like to earn an IB certificate for each course, and potential college credit, but not the full IB Diploma.
IB Certificate: The IBO awards certificates to students for each Higher Level and Standard Level examination completed even if the student is not a candidate for an IB Diploma. IB students who take classes, but do not test WILL NOT receive certificates from IBO. To be awarded IB Certificates candidates must:
▪ Enroll in one or more IB classes
▪ Pay the IB exam fees for the courses in which they are enrolled
▪ Pass the HL or SL test
-Note: Not all IB Assessments will apply to Certificate students - but Certificate students MUST take the assigned IB assessments.
