A teacher’s formal education in child development or early childhood education has an impact on school readiness. When teachers have some formal education, such as a Early Childhood Degree, Child Development Associate (CDA), professional certificate, or child-related college credits, they are more prepared to intentionally support children’s learning through high quality interactions.
All Pre-K teachers will possess an appropriate endorsement on a teaching license issued by the Virginia Board of Education for a VPI teacher. An appropriate endorsement on a teaching license issued by the Virginia Board of Education for a VPI teacher includes PreK-3, PreK-6, Special Education Early Childhood AND the Early Childhood for 3-and 4- year-olds (add-on endorsement).

Currently all Pre-K teachers in Carroll County are appropriately endorsed for Pre-K. All Pre-K teachers have attended Child Abuse and Neglect Recognition and Intervention Training, Emergency First Aid, CPR & AED Certification or Training, Dyslexia Awareness Training, and Behavior Intervention and Support Training.
