Child Financial Harms Resources
January brought the familiar pattern: parents discovering unauthorised in-game purchases, drained gift cards, subscriptions they never approved. If you work with families, you've probably heard these stories.
These aren't isolated incidents. They're symptoms of children navigating online financial risks in digital spaces designed to exploit them – and families are asking for help.
Parents told the Curriculum and Assessment Review they need more support with financial literacy. The government listened but the first teaching of the new curriculum won't begin until September 2028.
Good news: practical resources exist right now to help the families and young people you work with.
Everyday Digital gives educators and family professionals the training and tools to respond to the challenges screens and the internet create for families. Used by 29 local authorities, it's already reaching families who need this support most.
PSHE Association Online Financial Harms Lesson Pack helps protect pupils from a range of online financial harms that pose safeguarding as well as financial risks. Lesson plans start at key stage 2 and build in complexity to secondary school and key stage 5 level. There are also dedicated materials for pupils with SEND.
Our research shows 96% of teenagers buy things online, yet only 65% of parents realise this. That knowledge gap leaves children navigating risks alone. These resources help close it.
The curriculum changes coming are important – but children need support now. Whether you're a teacher looking for classroom materials or working with parents who need practical guidance, these resources are here.
