Physical Education
I. PHILOSOPHY OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Physical Education should provide equal opportunity for students to create, learn, enjoy and participate in skill development through a variety of physical activities that have lifelong value. These activities should be designed to contribute to good physical, mental, social, and emotional health.
II. EXPECTATIONS
Students are expected to participate every class. Students are expected to follow classroom procedures and school expectations. Students will not be issued locks/lockers or have access to the locker rooms. Students will need to come prepared (clothes, shoes, & water bottle) for physical activity every day.
III. COURSE OBJECTIVES
Standard 1. The physically literate individual demonstrates competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns.
Standard 2. The physically literate individual applies knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies and tactics related to movement and performance.
Standard 3. The physically literate individual demonstrates the knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical activity and fitness.
Standard 4. The physically literate individual exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others.
Standard 5. The physically literate individual recognizes the value of physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and/or social interaction.
IV. COURSE CONTENT (includes but is not limited to)
Health Education
Alcohol/Drugs/Tobacco, Body Systems, Building Healthy Relationships, First Aid & Safety,
Mental Emotional Health, Nutrition, Physical Activity, Sex Education
We do a health lesson on most Mondays.
Physical Education
Aerobic Bowling, Badminton, Basketball, Coneball, Cupstacking, Fitnessgram, Football, Kickball, Personal Fitness, Pickleball, Sepak Takraw, Soccer, Volleyball, Ultimate Frisbee
V. GRADING
Students will receive a grade for HPE on their report cards. It is important for students to be prepared and participate to the best of their abilities.
Participation = 70% of the 9-weeks Grade
Health = 30% of the 9-weeks Grade
100 - 90 A
89 - 80 B
79 - 70 C
69 - 0 F
VI. OTHER ACTIVITIES
Fitnessgram
This is a mandatory assessment by the State of Georgia. There are 5 parts: body composition, PACER, curl-ups, push-ups, and sit and reach. Any results will not be shared with other teachers, students, or others. The results will not be used as a grade. It is simply an assessment to provide you with information about your student's physical fitness levels. Students will have their scores reported to the State of Georgia.
American Heart Challenge January 30-February 5, 2023
This is a charity fundraiser we do in January/February for the American Heart Association. We collect donations (online only). Thank-you gifts are given for different levels of amounts collected. More information will be provide at a later date.
Locks and Lockers
Students will be issued a lock for lockers in the locker room. Students are NOT allowed to bring locks from home. Students should take their clothes home at least once a week to be washed. Students need "outdoor" shoes. There are times we go outside for class and the field may be damp.
***Due to current guidelines, students will not be issued locks/lockers or access to the locker rooms. Students will need to come prepared (clothes & shoes) for physical activity every day. It is highly recommend students keep some deodorant in their books bags to use after class.***
