I spent the first seventeen years of my life living in the beautiful country of Canada, but have since lived an equal amount of time here, in the USA. I was very blessed to be able to attend Upper Columbia Academy my senior year and then have friends who were heading down to attend Southern Adventist University in Tennessee. This is where I took my Intro to Education class and realized that I had a passion for teaching. I wrote up my philosophy of education in that class and haven’t wavered much over the years in my effort to provide students with active learning experiences.

I knew that I belonged in the northwest, however, so in order to marry well I needed to finish my degree at Walla Walla University. I was lucky enough to meet my future husband and start dating just in the nick of time. I graduated from WWU with my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 2005 and we tied the knot the next summer. Not waiting around for anything [I’m really bad at putting things off], soon Peter and Ezra joined our family. I did my best to stay current in my field by substitute and online teaching whenever I could.

When my youngest son was five years old, I was asked to teach Preschool at Liberty Christian School in Walla Walla. It was the perfect place for me to get back into the classroom and the next year I was asked to teach Kindergarten! I spent that summer and fall working on my Master’s Degree in K-6 Mathematics, conducting research in the area of active learning and how it affects students’ ability to retain their new knowledge.

Then my husband expressed his desire to move to a new job in Wenatchee -- not what I had planned, but I’m always up for an adventure! We moved here on Christmas Day 2015 and enrolled our two boys here at CCA. I was able to land a part-time job at Lincoln Elementary in the middle of the school year and taught music classes for Kindergarten and special needs students for 2.5 years. When the opportunity to teach at CCA opened up in 2018, I was more than ready to jump in! I’m thrilled to have the chance to teach math and other subjects to students who can tie their own shoes!
