YAY! This week was EXCITING since it was the start of our planting journey. For the past week, our group talked about the possible plants we could choose, considering the climate and location, and yes, we chose pechay!
We started off our planting journey by preparing the land we were going to use by tilling the soil. This was already a hard step for us considering the amount of rocks and debris we had to remove. Dito pa lang hirap na hirap na kami, tapos super init pa - As in our group had to remove such a large number of rocks. I can say that minalas kami sa location because it had more debris than the other groups. Thankfully, there was a variety of tools to choose from, which definitely helped us. However, we still finished last, but it's alright! I still enjoyed the activity because I really like doing field works although in the process, I get really tired and regret doing it (I'm just a girl)
Pechay seeds are usually tiny and have a reddish color, making them easy to handle and plant. The attached photo is an example of the seeds of a pechay.
To plant this, some of my classmates, together with Ma'am Reg, mixed garden soil with manure as a perfect substrate for our seedlings. While we were preparing the land, they were trying to mix the two together, and they actually took lots of time to do this, although they still finished doing it before us. They transferred it to the seedling trays, wherein some of my groupmates planted our seeds.
To end the day, we cleaned the tools we used and arranged our seedling trays in the Science Research Facility together with some of my classmates. Since we had just started planting, we had no measurable data for the week.
I realized kung gaano ka-importante malaman kung anong pinapasukan mo bago ka sumabak (AY). But for real, I think it is really important to know the process or background of a thing before actually doing it. Before, I did not know how hard it is to actually take care of a plant. Now, we have only done land preparation most of the time, but it has still been very challenging for many of us. It is good that Ma'am Reg has discussed beforehand what to do in land preparation or the tools we are going to use. It definitely saved us a lot of time (kahit sobrang daming oras namin natapos un)
I am thankful for the experience and to Ma'am Reg and my classmates and for their cooperation. Ngayon, makakapag-yabang na ako na nakapagtanim kami sa Pisay!!! SEE U NEXT WEEK! 💚
