Animal cruelty
Farming nowadays is very much about profit and not about the animals. Like I mentioned before there are good and bad farmers but animals even in completely developed nations are suffering. Animals are being shoved into cramped spaces and separated from their young at an early age. Animal cruelty though is not confined to the farm. There are lots of people who don't take care of their pets or just don't give them the attention they need. There are more laws on 'pet' abuse and it is more widely criticised and the general population are more aware of it but it's just as important as any animal abuse.
I have a pet and she is the best in the world so I get very upset when I see people who abuse animals, but me myself actually have seen mild forms of animal abuse ad I am afraid I was to young to really care about it. I also don't agree that a dog that has bit someone should be put down immediately, it should rather have a fair trial as it's cruel to just blame the dog.
I hate the way that pounds kill the dogs after a certain amount of days but me myself have no answer or solution because pets are very costly and the dog shelters simply do not get enough funding. This problem can only be fixed if animal cruelty stopped all together but thats not going to happen any time soon. Another form of cruelty that is almost impossible to fix (without collective effort or even more cruelty) is the deformation of dogs and other animals to either increase the amount of produce they give or to make them seem more 'cute'.
The deformities they give cause the animal so much suffering and preventable pain. I used to love pugs but now I realise how much pain they go through I just can't bear to look at them. The whole 'making things look nicer thing' was when a bunch of rich people had contests to show of how rich they were by having the 'cutest' dog.
The cruelty behind this is just awful but it's still happening and being supported to this day. Another reason to selectively breed animals is to get them to produce more of a product from milk to meat. A cow has even been genetically engineered to produce milk with low levels of lactose for people who are lactose intolerant. These genetic modifications do have benefits but really it's quite cruel what goes down in the labs. The thing I hate most is that these modifications have no real benefits for anyone except the human race. You may think, of course it only affects us, how would it make sense from a revolutionary standpoint to only think of other animals and not the human race! It makes sense from a revolutionary standpoint but we shouldn't just take and never give because we can. You might think it's ok because maybe if bears were as successful as the human race they probably would reck the world the same way. Well if a bear put his paw in the fire would you. We are not only recking the world for all the other animals but also ourselves and it's got to stop. The reality is that we probably won't but leave our planet in a reck and leave to another planet so we can destroy it too. (this is just my rant on animal cruelty. From now on it will be stories)
A hare “DROPPED DEAD” after a hare coursing meeting in County Laois, ICABS was disgusted to learn.
Sickening documents just published by the National Parks and Wildlife Service (which shamefully licenses cruel coursing) reveal that the hare “dropped dead while being boxed at release”. The death occurred after the conclusion of the 2-day Borris-in-Ossory coursing meet, held on 12th and 13th December last - https://www.npws.ie/sites/default/files/files/coursing-borris-in-ossory-2018-19.pdf
According to a National Parks ranger who monitored the event, 3 hares were hit on Day 1 and two of these hares were “injured by dogs”. The ranger also reported that another hare was “injured by dogs” on Day 2. Was this injured hare the same hare who later that day dropped dead?
In contrast to the ranger’s observations, a report submitted by the coursers’ vet puts the number of injured hares at “nil”.
The vet stated that the hare who died after the coursing meeting and who may have been in unnatural captivity for over 2 months (the coursers started catching hares on 7th October) died as a result of “old age / natural causes”.
There is, of course, nothing “natural” about hares being trapped in a coursing enclosure, manhandled, trained to run up a field and used as live lures for dogs to chase in front of a merciless mob.
ACTION ALERT
With warnings from wildlife experts that the Irish Hare is in trouble, it is now more clear than ever that the species must be given FULL PROTECTION - no hare coursing, no hare hunting, no hare shooting. Urgently contact Minister Josepha Madigan and the National Parks and Wildlife Service and demand that they stop licensing coursing and end all forms of hare persecution.

SAMPLE LETTER
(If you have time, please compose your own personal letter. Otherwise, feel free to send the short sample letter below)
Dear Minister Madigan,
I am one of the majority who want hare coursing outlawed. I am writing to demand that you stop licensing this cruel bloodsport.
In coursing, hares suffer and die at all stages - during the capture, during the time they are kept in captivity and during the coursing meetings where they run for their lives in front of greyhounds. Among the injuries recorded are broken legs, damaged toes and dislocated hips.
I ask you to please act on the wishes of the majority, show compassion and end this cruelty.
Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
The Irish Hare is a protected species but an exemption for coursing in the Animal Health and Welfare Act means coursers are not liable for prosecution for their cruelty. Join us in our call to the government to remove the exemption and provide full and permanent protection to this cherished species.
Contact An Taoiseach (Prime Minister) Leo Varadkar and ask him to ban hare coursing and give permanent protection to hares.

sometime after the election result of 2018 was announced in Pakistan. A losing party in PK89 of Adnan Khan Wazir, who was a ticket holder for qoumi watan party of Aftab Sherpao, tied an innocent dog to a tree, put a PTI flag around him and then shot him in the neck!
The dog was screaming and howling in pain while these men stood around him, still pointing a gun at him. They were enjoying seeing him writher in pain. People like these are sadists and psychopaths. Under the cruelty to animal law they need to be punished!
We want the government to take notice of this incident, help identify the murderers and punish them. We also want the government to make a database of all such sadists who enjoy hurting innocent animals. These people enjoy violence and won't just stop at harming animals. They are the very people who become terrorists, murderers and rapists.
It is about time Pakistan realizes animal rights and punishes those who torture/harm animals in anyway. We as a country needs to be more compassionate! Please stand up against animal cruelty!

Justice for Buddy the stray dog who was mercilessly beaten by Suraj Parmer and his father
Dear Respected Ms Gandhi and Team Peta,
This is with regards to an incident of ANIMAL CRUELTY on May 22, 2018 at Yashkunj society , Ahmedabad where an aged and timid stray dog named Buddy was mercilessly beaten by a cricket bat by SURAJ PARMAR and his FATHER both residing in the same complex.
The stray dog in question is partially blind and has been in the locality for a long time. The accused blamed the dog of barking and coming in the way and justified the merciless and cruel beating with the cricket bat as a means to teach him a lesson. The dog has been beaten to such a serious degree that he is now very critical and is under the care of BHATIA FOUNDATION TRUST, under the care if Ms Devika Bhatia and her sister Himal Bhatia. Both father and son when confronted gave 3 different stories of lies to cover up their crime.
Other residents of the complex however have maintained that Buddy has not bitten anyone and there are no victims who have come forward with the complaint or any evidences. He has been so badly beaten up that he has suffered internal trauma and is under critical care. When confronted at the site of the incident both father and son were not only unapologetic but also remarked that ' at least the dog is not dead'. ( please find below link containing video of Suraj telling the activists ' so what ' if he has hit the dog , at least he is still alive)

An FIR has been lodged at Ghatalodiya police station against the accused for the heinous act. Many of the accused's friends/relatives have come forward and openly threatened both the girls and their safety since they have stood up for the dog. They have threatened them of exposing them to the media on grounds of false publicty by paying off the media to teach them a lesson. Initially both father and son admitted their crime thinking the FIR would be cancelled however since that was not complied, the mother of the accused tried requesting Devika to ' let her son go since it was a mistake and that she should do it on humanitarian reasons'. When the same was not obliged their relatives and friends started being aggressive and threatening.
There are many Ngo's and foundations who work relentlessly with stray dogs/ abandoned dogs and help spread awareness about getting strays neutered and vaccinated to prevent dog bites if any, however beating a helpless soul is not the way to either teach the animal a lesson or keep them under check. Especially in the case of Suraj and his father. There are ample evidences and videos of their family members misbehaving with both activists to force them to take back their complaint.
Inspite of the Buddy being mercilessly struck he seems docile and approachable as opposed to the false accusation made by Suraj, his father and some of their friends about the dog being very aggressive.
I request you to kindly help us deliver justice to Buddy,
I also humbly request all the animal lovers / dog lovers to raise their voice against this issue, so that justice will be served not just to the animal who is mercilessly beaten almost to death but also to the two brave activists who go through odds and receive threats in order to take back their complaint.
While India does not have any strict law in place against animal cruelty, kindly note that this not only gives the accused a reason to beat and torture animals as they wish and get away with it because they know it is not written in the law and hence will not be punished but it also reflects poorly of our judicial system as they fail to deliver justice and side by the truth. No degree of qualification is of any importance in this case for Suraj as a student of engineering if he lacks compassion. Is this the kind of people who will be the future of India ?It is but a matter of shame to see our society progress backwards when we are working towards a more developed and peaceful nation. https://www.facebook.com/njadawala/videos/10155327758060025/
Dear everyone,
Michael Gallagher tightened a zip-tie around her neck, shoved her into a garbage bag…and viciously beat her with a metal shovel.
Her name was Bella, an 11-year-old shepherd mix from New York. The injuries she sustained at the hands of her trusted guardian, Michael Gallagher, were so severe that she had to be euthanized.
New York prosecutors pursued the maximum sentence for Gallagher’s crime, which included a felony charge of aggravated cruelty to animals. But Gallagher was sentenced to just four months in county jail.
That’s not justice. For 40 years, the Animal Legal Defense Fund has been fighting cruelty and injustice towards animals — and we need your help. In honour of Bella, generous donors have offered to match every gift we receive this month, up to $42,000. please give your support now to help strengthen animal cruelty laws in states like New York, where abusers like Gallagher get a slap on the wrist for their crimes.
The current law in New York only allows animal abusers to serve a maximum of two years in jail — no matter how egregious the crime. That means that Gallagher could have received more jail time for hitting someone’s car with that metal shovel than he did for beating Bella with it.
Animals are individuals with interests, personalities, and feelings — Bella’s life was more valuable and precious than a car, and she deserved better.
With your help, we will fight to change weak cruelty laws in states across the country —safeguarding animals’ lives, and ensuring justice is served for animal victims. At this very moment, we’re working with New York State Assembly member Linda Rosenthal to pass “Bella’s Bill” (A-342), introduced in early January 2019, to overhaul New York’s outdated animal cruelty laws.
Work like this is not possible without your support. And right now your renewal gift will make twice the impact for animals like Bella — so please give as generously as you can today!
For the animals,
Stephen Wells
Executive Director
