Hello from Mrs. Verdichizzi! I miss you all so much and I hope that you are all healthy and safe.

Our time together this year in music is now coming to an end. I thank all of you who participated each week in music activities. I hope you were able to find an activity that you liked from the choices that were listed and that you were able to learn about music notes, sounds, rhythms, and instruments.

If you want to contact me, you still can anytime. Just send an email to mverdich@catskillcsd.org. I will be checking email often and I will respond as soon as possible.

If you have something you would like me to see, you can have your parents/guardians help you take a picture or video of it and attach it to an email that you send me. Please include your name on anything you send me.

I will still check my Music Grades 4 & 5 Google Classroom from time to time too, so feel free to leave a message there or check that classroom for activities you can do. You would need to make sure that you have joined my classroom by entering this code: umg4fk6 Give it a try!

I wish you all the best. Remember, be respectful, be responsible, and stay safe and healthy!

Keep singing, keep listening, keep performing, and have fun!

Here are activities for you to try. Choose one for the week or try all three!

Have fun!

First Activity:

Watch this video performance and try to do the step/clap move. The step/clap move will be taught slowly and then shown quickly. See if you can do it slowly at first and then faster and faster. If you video yourself trying the move, email your video performance to mverdich@catskillcsd.org so I can see your attempt at doing this. Have fun!

Second Activity:

Try this worksheet, Soccer Rhythm Math. You will need to print it, work on it, then take a picture of your completed worksheet and email it to mverdich@catskillcsd.org so I can see your completed work. Try to remember how many beats all the notes that we learned get. Be careful doing all your math! Have fun!

Third Activity:

Create a Shaking Tambourine Instrument and Use it to Play Music

Directions:

1. Decorate two paper plates.

2. Hold the two paper plates together and tape, glue, or staple all around the edges. (leave a small section open to add what you will use to make the shaking sound.)

3. Add something to the inside of your tambourine to make a shaking sound such as small stones, rice, beans, or beads. Then finish closing the last edge.

4. Now you have a shaking tambourine that you can use to shake different rhythms with.

Have some fun with your tambourine. Create your own shaking rhythm pattern, or shake along to your favorite song. You can have someone make a video of you playing, or take a picture of your tambourine that you created, and email it to mverdich@catskillcsd.org.

APRIL 13-17 MUSIC WORK

HERE ARE three ACTIVITIES FOR YOU TO TRY. choose one or try all three!

HAVE FUN!

1) Click on this link and enjoy watching this fun hand clapping routine! I am sure the performers needed to practice this many times before they performed it!

After you watch this, write a paragraph explaining how this performance is an example of music. Did the performers use any real instruments? What sounds did you hear? Did the performers clap their hands, stomp their feet, tap on their legs? Was there a steady beat? Use as many details from the performance as you can to explain how this is music. Remember to include your name on your paper and have someone take a picture of your finished paragraph and email it to me at mverdich@catskillcsd.org

2) Try the worksheet below, "Time Signature Cups." Remember what we learned in music class about a time signature in music. There are two numbers written like a fraction, one on top of the other, without a fraction bar in between. The top number is the one that identifies how many beats of counting will be in each measure (box) of music. The bottom number identifies what kind of rhythm symbol note will get one beat ,which then determines how many beats all the other rhythm symbol notes will get.

Directions: Pretend each cup in the worksheet is a measure of music. The total number of beats in the cup must equal the top number of the time signature you choose from the bottom of the page. You will use each time signature a bunch of times. Remember that rests (which make no sound) have to be counted as beats in the music. Have someone take a picture of your completed worksheet and email it to mverdich@catskillcsd.org so I can see your work.

time signature cups.docx

3) Here is an activity for your to try - Hand Clapping Routine

Create your own hand clapping, tapping routine, similar to the one in the video above except using just you as a solo performer. Have someone take a video of it and send it to mverdich@catskillcsd.org.
