Two records were broken in a single meet! Gwyneth Peckham won the modified race. She shattered the course record. The record was previously set in 2021 by current Cato-Meridian senior Maggie Brown. Congratulations Gwyneth! Everett Cox won the boys varsity race and now has the record for the fastest Cato runner on the home course with a time of 17:35. The Boy’s team earned the title of Patriot National League champions remaining undefeated throughout the dual meet season with a record of 7-0. Maggie Brown won the girls race. The Girl’s team record to date is 6-1. Athlete of the meet honors to; Gwyneth Peckham, Triston Hubbard, Anabelle Edelstein, and Everett Cox.
The squads traveled out to Section V for some new competition. Highlights include; both girls Modified and Varsity teams finished in second place, Gwyneth Peckham and Callie Gillis finished 1-2 in the girls modified race, and the boys Varsity team earned third place! Athlete of the meet honors to; Kensi Phillips, Triston Hubbard, Anabelle Edelstein, and Ethan Nasholts.
Both the Varsity teams beat APW and Hannibal, as well as the Modified girls team. Congratulations goes out to the Varsity Boys team who clinched the league title for the third year in a row! Athlete of the meet honors to; Ava Enderle, Triston Hubbard, Isabella Wilkins, and Lucas Conklin.
The teams traveled all the way out to Saratoga for the Burnt Hills Invitational. The girls finished 5th out of 25 teams with 5 athletes earning medals. The boys were incomplete as a team but 2 athletes raced themselves a medal. Athlete of the meet honors to; Gwyneth Peckham, Eli Zappala, Ethan Nasholts, and Myia Kimball.
Cato played host Weedsport and Pulaski. The boys came away victorious over both, while the girls came up just short against Pulaski. Athlete of the meet honors to; Chase Stevens, Gwyneth Peckham, Lucas Conklin, and Anabelle Edelstein.
The teams took the trip out to Rochest for the McQuaid Invitational. Competing against over 70 teams both Girls modified and varsity finished in 11th place, while the Boys teams were incomplete. Athlete of the meet honors to; Chase Stevens, Charlie Woodward, Hunter Stinson, and Maggie Brown.
The Boys and Girls Varsity Cross Country Teams and the Girl’s Modified team came away with big wins against Port Byron yesterday. Both varsity teams move to 2-0 on the season. Everett Cox, Maggie Brown and Gwyneth Peckham each won their respective races! Athlete of the meet honors to; Chase Stevens, Gwyneth Peckham, Everett Cox, and Ella Harkness.
The cross country teams opened their seasons this weekend at the Baldwinsville Invitational, competing against 45 other teams and over 250 runners. The girls modified team finished 2nd place led by a 7th place finish from Callie Gillis and top 20 finishes from Gwyneth Peckham, Ella Harkness, and Anabelle Edelstein. The Girls Varsity team placed 9th led by a top 20 finish from Maggie Brown and a career day for Isabella Wilkins. Lastly, the Boys Varsity team placed 8th with a solid all around team effort. Athlete of the meet honors to; Chase Stevens, Alivia Wilkins, Andrew Bonanno, and Isabella Wilkins.
All four teams open the season with a scrimmage against Weedsport and Port Byron. Some solid performances all around as we prepare for the season opener on Saturday at the Baldwinsville Invitational.
