We had two track and field athletes competing at the State Championships in Middletown. Both athletes earned medals by finishing in the top six! Maggie Brown, spurred on by an excellent performance in the long jump, finished in fifth place in the pentathlon. Hunter Gillmore ran the race of his life in the hurdles! The state qualifier meet was split across two days this year. First up was the boys. Congratulations to Hunter Gillmore. His first place finish in the 110m Hurdles qualified him for the State Championship meet. On the girls' side Maggie Brown also qualified, with a new school record in the Pentathlon. Athlete of the meet honors to Maggie Brown and Landon Gillmore.
Off to West Canada Valley to compete in the Section Championship. The girls finished in second place with Maggie Brown claiming an individual title in the high jump, clearing 4 feet 10 inches. Extra congratulations to Maggie as she broke the school record in the 400 meter hurdles. The previous record stood since 2004 and was held by Kate Modafferi. The boys also finished second with Hunter Gillmore earning individual titles in both the 100 meter and 400 meter hurdles. Athlete of the meet honors to Camryn Daggett and Hunter Gillmore.
Regular season comes to a rainy close at the CNS Invitational. A few fast times despit the wet weather. The teams traveled to Port Byron for the League Championship meet. The girls finished in second place out of eight teams. The following athletes earned second team all-league honors: Mollie Walton, Isabella Wilkins, Peyton Knox, Amber Clarke, and Elaina Williams. Maggie Brown earned first team all-league.
The boys followed up their undefeated regular season by dominating the competition to claim the title. The following athletes earned second team all-league honors: Everett Cox, Chris Morency, Curro Salas, Brady Aukema, Eli Zappala, and Wyatt Spratt. The following athletes earned first team all-league honors: Miles Muhlnickel, Nathan Dennis, Liam Mantell, Joey Bonanno, Hunter Gillmore, Camren Hoag, Lucas Dorgan, and Landon Gillmore. Lastly, congratulations to Camren, Lucas, Landon, and Hunter for breaking the school record in the four by 100 meter relay. The previous record has stood since 2007 and was held by Andrew Gillis, Nate Modafferi, Joe Murphy, and Sean Peckham. Athlete of the meet honors to Grace Bos and Camren Hoag, Lucas Dorgan, Landon Gillmore, and Hunter Gillmore.
The teams traveled all the way out to DeRuyter to compete in the DeRuyter Invitational. Both teams dominated the competition and came away with the wins over the other eight teams. Highlights included Aurelia Eckel and Kaylee McGetrick getting first and second place in both shot put and discus, Daryl McLain breaking his own school record in the 100 meter wheelchair race, the boys 4 by 100 meter relay team, consisting of Jacob LaForce, Lucas Dorgan, Landon Gillmore, and Hunter Gillmore winning the race, qualifying for the State Qualifier Meet, and just missing the school record by 3 tenths of a second, and lastly the girls 4 by 100 meter relay team, consisting of Maggie Brown, Camryn Daggett, Isabella Wilkins, and Amber Clarke, not only won the race and qualified for the State Qualifier Meet, but SMASHED the school record by almost 2 full seconds!! Athlete of the meet honors to Maggie Brown, Camryn Daggett, Isabella Wilkins, Amber Clarke and Hunter Gillmore.
Both teams traveled to Pulaski to close out the regular season. The girls team fought to a tough tie at 70.5 each. They finish the regular season as co-league champions with 6 wins 1 tie and zero loses. The boys won 97 to 44 and finish the season as league champions with 7 wins and zero loses. New section qualifying marks were set by, Lucas Dorgan (long jump), Chris Morency (long jump), Joey Bonanno (triple jump), Victoria Schutt (triple jump), Aurelia Eckel (shot put), Micah Muhlnickel (discus) and Eli Zappala (discus). Extra congratulations to Maggie Brown, breaking her own school record in long jump with a jump of 16 feet and 5 inches. Athlete of the meet honors to Victoria Schutt and Lucas Conklin.
This past weekend Maggie Brown was invited to compete at the prestigious Loucks Games track and field meet just outside of New York City. The meet was host to over 3,500 athletes from 424 teams, representing 9 US States and 6 Canadian Provinces. She competed in the pentathlon event finishing fourth place and breaking her own school record in the process. Her mark qualifies her for the state championship meet and is currently the second highest mark in the state.Â
The Boys team defeated Port Byron 111 to 30 and Bishop Ludden 119 to 22. The girls team also came away with two wins. defeating Port Byron 109 to 31 and Bishop Ludden 93 to 44. The following athletes achieved new sectional qualifying marks: Camren Hoag (100meter dash), Chris Morency (400meter hurdles), Joey Bonanno (2miles), Maggie Brown (400meter hurdles and shot put), Grace Bos (2miles), Aurelia Eckel (discus). The Boys team defeated S.A.S. 95-46 and A.P.W. 139-2. The girls varsity track team also came away with two wins. Prevailing over S.A.S. 113-28 and over A.P.W. 101-40. Both teams move to 4-0 on the season. The following athletes achieved new sectional qualifying marks: Everett Cox (2 mile), Eli Gillis (2 mile), Lucas Conklin (2 mile), Isabella Wilkins (100 meter hurdles), Camryn Daggett (400 meters), Amber Clarke (400 meters and long jump), Lucy Brown (2 mile). Athlete of the meet honors to Grace Bos and Landon Gillmore.
Maggie Brown competed at the Chittenango invitational. Despite some very wet conditions, she claimed first place in the pentathlon with a score of 2565points. This marks not only qualifies her for the state championship in June, but it currently ranks as the second best mark in the state!
Both teams are off to a fast start with wins over Weedsport and OnTech. The boys defeated Weedsport by a score of 116 to 25. Hunter Gillmore set a new school record in the hurdles with a time of 15.2 seconds. The girls team also defeated Weedsport; 113 to 28.
