Early Years STEM Digital resources
Here are a series of digital resources being used successfully in Early Years classes in CET schools:
- Cubettos - have you heard of these. I have multiple success stories of using these with Early year teachers and their students.
Here is a link to an information page set up on the CET STEM website re. Cubetto use, with lots of videos. We have a couple of sets of Cubettos in the STEM Lending Library.
- Osmo - this is a relatively inexpensive add-on to iPads that allows better interaction with the iPads. I only know of one school using it (and was given a demo when I was last out at that school), but it is used successfully there and it is an engaging tool with the potential for good curriculum links.
- Scratch Junior - This is used at some schools successfully as an introduction to Scratch. It is an app used on iPads only (not on laptops). Here's the blurb on their website - With ScratchJr, young children (ages 5-7) can program their own interactive stories and games. In the process, they learn to solve problems, design projects, and express themselves creatively on the computer.
- BeeBots - These are probably the most common technology used in Early Years, and very engaging for students and easy for teachers to use. The battery issue is real and has been addressed with the Version 2 Beebots which uses USB recharging. We have Version 1 Beebots in the STEM LL.
