Develop clear understanding regarding the difference between tech rich and blended classroom learning experiences
Root blended work in authentic problem & root causes
Blended Vs. Technology-Rich
As we prepare to implement student centered blended learning it is important to understand what blended learning is and is not.
Simply layering technology onto the existing model means little ultimately changes - you still have the factory model of education but with technology.
When technology arrives within the context of the existing system, the existing system starts to shape it to conform to its dimensions.
Facilitators may create a poll to capture responses.
The difference between a tech rich classroom and a blended classroom is…
Why does this difference matter? In other words, what danger is there, if any, in confusing the terms?
Know Your Why
If we are going to build our way forward, if we are going to pour our time, energy, resources into launching, refining, and sustaining innovation efforts, we must be clear on where exactly we are starting from, AND further, that we know what’s behind where we are (how we got there), what is at the root of the problem we want to solve?
STEP 1: As you review your District identified problem statement (add to your copy of the file below) Consider: Why does this problem exist at your campus? In particular, consider: What is it about the current student experience that isn’t working/ contributes to this problem? Each participant add 3 responses. 1 idea per “sticky” response.
STEP 2: Campus leader or other designee leads a grouping/ synthesis of the responses. You may want to stack on top of one another responses that are very similar. Group up into about 5 categories/themes.
STEP 3: For the categories of Root Cause that emerge, determine WHY that is the case, see if you can get further to the root of that concept.
