Step 1: Watch: Shifting the Unit of Analysis - screencast
Step 2: Read: The Learning Accelerator article about the key shifts and mindsets that support a Data Culture, Crafting a Data Vision; It is critical that education teams have a clear and shared vision for how they want to use data to improve student learning.
Step 3: Reflection Questions: Priority Data Measures & Shifts. Respond to the following questions on this Figjam board | Facilitators make a copy to capture reflections or create a padlet.
1) Which data sources may be most aligned to this shift in the unit of analysis from the classroom level to the student level? What makes you say that?
2) What might you need to start doing or do differently in order to shift toward the unit of analysis at the student level?

Research Insight: Data Source Do's
Which of the takeaways (one of the do’s above) regarding data sources most resonates in your context? What makes you say that?
Step 1: RBL overview video describing what is a data inventory. Video (1:18 min)
Step 2: Listen to DataWise Case Study Clip (7:10-9:02) to hear elementary campus leaders communicate the purpose and value of a data inventory and the process they follow to build and refine the campus inventory.
Step 3 (PMs & Campus Leaders Only): Prepare Your Campus Level Data Inventory
Pull up your campus data inventory linked in the Google site
Please add or revise your Data Inventory as needed so that it is current.
The goal is not to list every source of data available for consideration. Instead, we want you to list and describe the sources most useful for driving personalized instruction in a blended context.
Data Inventory Overview
As you come in please respond to the Figjam file | Facilitators make a copy or create custom padlet to capture responses
“For any measure, decision-makers should be asking: How could this information be used well and what is that going to take --for example, support for professional learning and instructional guidance? How could the data be used poorly, and how do we protect against that --for example tracking students into low-level content or labeling students in ways that are stigmatizing?”*
(30 min) Data Inventory Pressure test:
Use the Data Source Pressure Test questions (at the bottom of the Data Inventory) to refine your Data Inventory, identify 3 priority data sources, and determine specific next steps related to your prioritized data sources.
